Join the Administrative Management Council’s Naughty Knitters and Crafty Crocheters for these lunchtime workshops creating scarves and hats for local seniors.
Also on display will be current projects to be donated. No experience is necessary, and all supplies will be provided.  Lunch will be served.

Senior Benefit & Entitlement Fair 2010 10:00 AM-3:00 PM
NYCHA's sixth annual Senior Benefit & Entitlement Fair will provide opportunities for seniors to enroll into various services and entitlement programs.
It will also empower seniors with valuable contacts and information to help make informed choices on healthcare. This year's fair, in addition to its traditional
focus on health and health screenings, will place special emphasis on the role new technologies can play in improving the quality of life for seniors.

Comfort Dolls from Our Community is a charitable organization dedicated to helping children and young adults by distributing hand-made dolls to those individuals
who have been involved in crisis situations. Come join us for lunch and make Comfort Dolls that will be sent out to children currently coping with a post-earthquake Haiti.

Join us for a panel discussion led by NYU’s own Professor Fabienne Doucet (co-founder of HaitiCorps International) that features speakers from the
Red Cross, Rural Haiti Project, and Happy Hearts Fund about disaster relief and preparedness. How do we prepare for natural disasters?
What are the most effective ways for us to give back and help in the aftermath of these tragedies? These are a few topics panelists will be discussing

Food Bank for New York City is the city’s major hunger-relief organization, working to end food poverty and increase access to affordable,

NYC CoolRoofs 9:00 AM-3:00 PM
The NYC CoolRoofs initiative encourages building owners to cool their rooftops by applying a reflective white coating that reduces energy use, cooling costs and carbon emissions.
The program supports New York City's goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 30 percent by 2030. Volunteers will be cleaning roofs, coating roofs, and cleaning up.
Be prepared for time in the sun!

The Caring Community provides a wide variety of social services to meet the needs of senior citizens living in Lower Manhattan and the Greenwich Village area.

Intern or get involved with Jewish Heart for Africa

Jewish Heart for Africa brings sustainable Israeli technologies to rural African villages. Using solar and agricultural technologies from Israel, we have completed 33 projects since our founding in 2008, bringing light, clean water, improved education and proper medical care to over 150,000 Africa people. One way to get involved:

This year, we are launching a Student Task Force. Our volunteer community consists of hundreds of people worldwide, coming together in support of our work. An increasing number of these volunteers are students that want to bring Jewish Heart for Africa to their campuses.

The Jewish Heart for Africa Campus Coordinator will work from our NY office and serve as a liaison to students around the globe, brainstorming on events, reaching out to new campuses and providing students with the materials and support they need to be meaningful advocates for our work. For the right candidate hours will be flexible, with the opportunity to work from home as well.

Qualifications:
:: Experience in campus advocacy and planning events
:: Strong communication skills; ability to work well individually and/or in a team
:: Must be creative, with a strong attention to detail

We are looking for a social media and marketing intern--the twintern, for short. Our constituents are young--the average age of our major donors is only 32. Social media is one of our most important communications tools, and we need help building a stronger presence online.

We are seeking a fun, creative intern who will be responsible for tweeting, posting and growing our online community.

Qualifications:
:: Expertise in various social media and marketing tools including facebook and twitter
:: Proficiency in both Mac and PC
:: Strong communications and interpersonal skills; ability to work well individually and/or in a team
:: Must be creative, with a strong attention to detail

Hazon needs student volunteers to help on the last day of the New York, Jewish Environmental Bike Ride. It would be a 2.5 hour commitment on Monday, September 6th, with free food, free Hazon t-shirt, and a chance to witness the end of an amazing charitable event! Campus Representative Opportunity

I'd like to introduce you to WILL WORK FOR FOOD (WWFF). WWFF was
started out of University of Michigan Hillel and aims to stimulate
local community service while raising relief funds to fight child
malnutrition abroad. A true example of tikkun olam.

WILL WORK FOR FOOD's innovative model has already raised over $40,000
and stimulated over 1200 commitments to community service. The
initiative has also been recognized by the Clinton Global Initiative
for Universities and chosen as an International Semi-Finalist in the

WILL WORK FOR FOOD had a presence at about 15 schools last year and is
currently working to expand to additional campuses. We are essentially
looking for bright and driven students to start chapters (or help
expand current chapters) and figured Hillels would be a great place to

on the 2-week anniversary of the earthquake,

The vigil will take place at Gould Plaza, Stern, 40 W. 4th Street,

This event will be the kick-off for our $1-a-Student initiative in an attempt to have every member associated with NYU to donate atleast $1! Look out for buckets to donate at the event and throughout the week while expressing solidarity for those struck by the disaster in Haiti.

Anche Chesed:
Anche Chesed is a synagogue by day, and a homeless shelter for 10 men. They are always in need of new volunteers, because they are open 365 days a year. NYU has promised to send up two volunteers a week to open the shelter. Responsibilities, include signing the men in, setting up the supplies, and putting things away. Canarsie: Do you miss your Grandparents?
We have a Special grant from Dorot to go and visit the elderly people in Canarsie Brooklyn and bring them food for shabbat and spend some time with them. We need 7 or 8 volunteers to down on Friday mornings. and leave around 9:00. If you speak Russian and would like to go please get in contact with me right away. We are hoping to get a consistent group of people, but if you can only go once or twice that is okay. contact staci.mk@nyu.edu for more info.

Bronfman Green Fellow:

This year, the Jewish National Fund, NYU's Bronfman Center for Jewish Student Life and NYC Parks Department are teaming up to create a fantastic learning and work opportunity for NYU students. Students selected will be named JNF-Bronfman Green Fellows and will receive $250 at the completion of the fellowship in November.

Each student will spend two hours a week working in NYU's backyard, Washington Square Park. They will be guided by NYC Parks employees, trained in urban gardening and learn about city park management.

Each Wednesday evening, the group will come together to learn about "the green movement" and to explore environmental issues in a Jewish and Israel context.

The fellowship begins September 30th with an orientation and ends November 18th with a reflection/celebration of a semester's worth of work.

Requirements for fellows:

Working in the park (each student will select one track): Monday 11 AM-1PM OR Tuesday 2 PM-4PM

Jewish learning: Wednesday 7 - 9 PM

If you are interested in applying, please send a brief statement of interest that answers the following question: Why are you interested in working in the park and learning about the environment in a Jewish context?

Please include the which day you will be able to work in the park, Monday or Tuesday.
